Written by Allison Matos  |  31. July 2015

LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

What a beautiful summer this is turning out to be. Walks outside, BBQ’s, trips to the beach- who could ask for more? I know who - meet Rex, Zoomie and Amy who would love nothing more than to become a part of your family today!

Come on Long Island- we need to work together to find a home for poor Rex is still feeling the effects of Superstorm Sandy! This handsome guy was rescued a few months after the storm hit NY. Rex was found tied up in front of a shelter in NJ, but luckily some great people volunteered to foster him, and now he is ready to find his forever home! This 5 year old pit mix loves the outdoors- he’s a sucker for the beach and a nice backyard.

Rex is amazing with kids and loves everyone he meets, but would do best as the only pooch in a household.  This internet sensation even has his own Facebook page called “Rex’s Final Journey”. For more information about Rex, check out his Facebook page, or fill out an adoption application online You can also contact Daisy, at 718-663-1737 or email her.

Zoomie is a 6 month old female Jack Russell Terrier. Zoomie is tons of fun, high energy and such a sweetheart. Zoomie adores other dogs, and behaves beautifully and respectfully for her foster mom.  Zoomie has a lot of energy, so she would most likely be better suited for a family with older kids.  For information on how to adopt Zoomie, please email Sweetest Dog Rescue.

The gorgeous 3 month old female chocolate lab/hound mix you’re feasting your eyes on is Amy.  Amy is the perfect dog for a family with kids as she is described as being super sweet with everyone she meets.  I can personally vouch for the lab mix breed, as my young children are obsessed with my lab mix, Pepper. Amy won’t last - please email Sweetest Dog Rescue for more information.

Last Hope Animal Rescue welcomes their first NYC ACC dog to their shelter - meet Jesse James.  Mr. James is a Jindo which is a Spitz-type hunting dog, originally from Jindo Island off Korea (in similar breed size order, think Shiba Inu as the smallest, Jindo as middle-size and Akitas as largest.) Thankfully, Jesse was rescued by a policeman and with the help of Bobbi & the Strays, a Mayor’s Alliance partner, Jesse has made it to Last Hope. Mr. James is quite friendly and walks well on a leash (actually he is friendlier than many Jindos who remain aloof to strangers).

He is 50 pounds and about 6 years old. Jindos are a smart and complex breed. Mr. James will do best with an experienced owner, and can't wait to finally find his forever home. For more information, please visit Last Hope Animal Rescue's website.

Thanks for reading, and please remember to always adopt - never shop!
