Although it feels like the end of summer is almost here, there are plenty of events still occurring that will keep you filled with cheer. The hot and humid weather can be draining, but with various fairs and events being hosted throughout the island, the thoughts of just sitting around moping will quickly disappear. The Sweet Corn Festival is being held at Harbes Family Farm and Vineyard in Mattituck. On July 23rd through the 24th, come down to experience and enjoy amazing country foods and fun. This family friendly event is featuring live music, corn and pie eating contests, games, wine tasting, country treats, pony rides, a barnyard adventure, hayrides, mini-train rides, gemstone mining and more. For more information, call (631) 298-0700. Event runs from 10am-6pm. On July 30th and July 31st, NOFO Rock and Folk Fest will be held at the Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue. This two day music festival will include performances by Elvin Bishop, John Sebastian, Commander Cody, Lance Lopez, Jon DiVello Band, Miles to Dayton, Sunrise Skyline, Who Dat Loungers, Foghat, Corky Laing & The Memory Thieves, Gordon Gano & The Ryans, John Eddie, Nancy Atlas, Brian Ritchey and the Lone Sharks. Local wine, food, beer and vendors will also be stationed at NOFO. Festival admission is free for kids 12 years of age and under. Tickets for adults can be purchased online at http://www.noforockandfolkfest.com. Ticket prices for adults are $48 a day, $44 for seniors and students, $80 for a weekend pass and $72 for seniors and students for the weekend. The festival starts at 11a.m both days and goes till about 7p.m. On August 6th, the Arts and Crafts Show and Summer Sale will be held in Southampton. From 9a.m till 5p.m, families can enjoy handmade crafts, stuffed animals, jewelry, furniture and more at The First Presbyterian Church of Southampton, located at 2 South Main Street. Garvies Point Day will take place on Saturday, August 6th in Glen Cove from 10a.m-4p.m. Nature crafter, bird watching walk, beach exploration, cemetery tour, films and videos are all on the agenda for this event at the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. The following day (Aug. 7th) in Melville, India Fest will take place at the Huntington Hilton Hotel. Admission is free for this event which will showcase Indian culture, food, fashion, music, Bollywood, arts and more. The Escape to New York Musical Festival is being held from Friday, August 5th until Sunday, August 7th at the Shinnecock Reservation of Southampton. This festival is a “3 day celebration of art, music, food, theatre and the imagination” which will feature headliners such as Of Montreal, The Jolly Boys, Mates of State, Reptar, Tiger Love, Savoir Adore and more. On August 13th and 14th, the Paumanauke Pow Wow will be held at The Babylon Town Hall located at 200 East Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst. 60 plus venders will be in attendance, general competition and social dancing will all take place at the event. Cash prizes will be rewarded during the competition for all major categories. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children ages 12-16. Children under 12 will be admitted for free. The Heritage Craft Fair will be held in Huntington on August 20th. From 10a.m-5p.m, you and your family can enjoy colonial craft demonstrations, face painting, tours of the Kissam House and the Arsenal, live music, food and more. The rain date is scheduled for August 21st. This craft fair will take place at the Daniel W.
