Newport,Rhode Island, has a reputation as an elegant destination, and a new bed & breakfast that recently opened in "America's First Resort" can only add to that reputation. The Adele Turner Inn, owned by former Westinghouse Broadcasting executive Win Baker (who grew up in Manhasset), is a place where you can enjoy the pampered life for which Newport is famous. The inn is named for the mother of Newport's legendary eccentric artist, Beatrice Turner, who lived in another property owned by Baker, the popular Cliffside Inn. The story goes that the elder Turner used to pass this house, then owned by a sea captain, on her way to church in the Victorian era. Be that as it may, the Adele Turner Inn does recapture the elegance of a bygone day, but with such modern amenities as whirlpool baths and hot tubs. Another distinctive touch are the themed rooms, such as the Library, The "Great Gatsby" Suite, the Tycoon Suite, etc. A conscientous staff looks after your needs, and with a sumptuous breakfast and high tea included in the daily rate, you're sure not to have any of those really annoying hunger pangs. Close to Newport's harbor front, the inn is an excellent starting off point for shopping in the city's trendy boutiques, sailing on the bay, or touring the famous "summer cottages" of the Astors, Vanderbilts, and other members of high society in "The Gilded Age."
