With many museums, historic sites, botanical gardens and some malls now re-opened on Long Island under Phase 4, making weekend plans is a bit more competitive. Here is our guide to safely exploring Long Island’s top attractions this summer. Many attractions, still however, remain closed or are opened in a limited capacity including arts and cultural facilities, entertainment venues and sports arenas. Please check local listings before planning a visit and be aware that all require safe social distancing and wearing a mask.

Spotlight @ The Paramount:

Spotlight, located adjacent to The Paramount in Huntington, re-opened during phase 2 with a showcase of new local live musicians playing streetside performances on New York Avenue in Huntington Village.  The programming for Summer 2020 will feature a Quarantine Art exhibit, food & drink menu items including burgers & salads for indoor and outdoor dining served daily food delivery options via UberEats & GrubHub, as well as state-of-the-art in-seat in-app ordering system through OneDine. Old Westbury Gardens:

Now open for general admission, Old Westbury Gardens is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with over 200-acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes.  Tickets are limited and not available at the gate. The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum:

This iconic Gold Coast era estate features a unique combination of mansion, marine and natural history museum, planetarium, and park. The Marine Museum, Galleries, Dioramas and Estate Grounds are now opened to a limited number of visitors on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available online, admission to enter the property is $14 per carload.

Long Island Aquarium:

All indoor and outdoor habitats are now open daily from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Celebrating its 20^th anniversary, this FINtastic destination features one of the largest all-living coral reef displays in this hemisphere, a 120,000-gallon shark tank, African Penguins, Marmosets, numerous touch tanks and more than 100 exhibits including the lavish indoor gardens of our Butterflies, Bugs & Birds Exhibit!  www.longislandaquarium.com

The Cradle of Aviation:

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is an aviation and spaceflight museum located in East Garden City, New York on Long Island to commemorate Long Island’s part in the history of aviation. Museum galleries are now open and operating Thursday- Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The theater, Planetarium, Junior Jet Club and Nunley’s Carousel are still temporarily closed.  www.cradleofaviation.org

Long Island Maritime Museum:

Since 1968, The Long Island Maritime Museum has safeguarded the region’s maritime history and culture. Now open daily, the museum requires facial masks and social distancing protocols. Center for Science Teaching & Learning:

Situated in The Tanglewood Preserve, The Center for Science Teaching & Learning boasts interactive learning experiences for children with animals, nature and hands-on science. Roosevelt Field Mall:

Now open with limited hours and capacity, The Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City is welcoming back guests with necessary precautions in place including Curbside Pick-up available for both shopping and dining. Adventureland is offering up socially distant dine-in movie nights complete with dinner, bingo and a movie.
