New LIRR Station in Belmont for the NY Islanders

Written by erin__l  |  11. July 2019

The proposed $1.3 billion arena and entertainment complex includes a new Long Island Rail Road station being built in Belmont Park in hopes of the Islanders moving back to Long Island. This expansion that has been discussed for many years now is finally happening. The new station allows riders to directly go to Belmont from the east instead of exiting at Jamaica and going back to Belmont, which riders currently have to do.

Eastbound customers are expected to have partial access to this new station by 2021 while full access won't be available until 2023. It is expected that during off-peak hours, trains will arrive every hour, while during peak hours, trains will arrive at the station every half hour. In addition, electric shuttle buses will be implemented to transfer passengers from the LIRR station to the rest of the arena.

Governor Andrew Cuomo states that building this new station will boost the economy in the region and create a home for the New York Islanders. This new station will offer fans a fast, inexpensive way to travel to the arena as well as provide the NY Islanders with an easy way to get to Belmont.
