Hot Spots: Weekend Watch for Outdoor Fun, Music and Comedy

With summer here, head outdoors for fun! There’s a sandcastle contest to enjoy, a nature walk, discovering in the water and outdoor performances. Other performances to check out include comedy shows and a Golden Oldies showcase of performers. Check out the schedule of events and details here!

FRIDAY – JUNE 27, 2014
Who: Sandcastle Contest At Hither Hills State Park

Info: What’s summer without sandcastles! Come down to view sandcastle creations or bring your own shovel and bucket to start building your own. Contests will be held every Thursday through the summer.

Who: The Paramount Comedy Series Presents Steven Wright
Info: Come out to be entertained by Academy Award winner and comedian Steven Wright. Wright is a regular guest with David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, and others.

Who: Annual Huntington Summer Arts Festival At Heckscher Park
Info: Come out to enjoy the start of the Huntington Summer Arts Festival! For 6 nights a week, all summer long, there are performances to enjoy. This Friday, come see Garland Jeffreys, the roosty rocker and urban poet from New York City. The event is held by the Huntington Arts Council.

Nature Walk And Talk At Caleb Smith State Park Preserve

Info:  Take a walk through the natural preserve with naturalist Jan Christopher Porinchak. Enjoy an in depth walk through many landscapes of the park and hear tips to identifying various plants and animals that may be encountered. Reserve your place by calling. This walk is not recommended for children under 10 years old.

Who: Annual Benefit Art Show At Fire Island Lighthouse
Info: Come out to see is display of nautical artwork by local artists in the Lighthouse. All artwork is for sale and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Lighthouse by the artist. The opening reception will also include entertainment by Karen George on Bass & Vocal and Joe D’Ambrosi on the Keyboard.
