MEDIA ADVISORY for June 25 Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Kicks Off Its Summer Season

Who: Bridget Costello, Executive Director, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck staff members Campers and their families What: Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is kicking off its 66th season of serving children with special needs and making the camp a place where summer is for everyone. Campers will check in and spend a week at the camp, where children up to age twenty-one with physical and developmental challenges the opportunity to take part in a variety of summer activities such as swimming, boating, arts and crafts, talent shows, cook-outs and games. The idea for the camp came from The Rotary Club of the Moriches. In 1941, the Club sponsored a picnic at the beach for handicapped children. They rented a home for campers during the summer between 1943 and 1945 before leasing a building in Yaphank from the county. In 1946, the camp's first season was held at the current location at Chet Swezey Road, just off Kaler's Pond, lasting six weeks. In 1969, the season was extended to nine weeks - the current length of the summer season. When: Saturday, June 25, 2011 9:00 a.m.-noon Where: Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Chet Swezey Road Center Moriches, New York Directions: From the Long Island Expressway, go to Exit 69S (Wading River Road). Take Wading River Road to the end, and turn right onto Railroad Avenue. Montauk Avenue/Main Street. Go to the second traffic light and make a left onto Montauk Avenue/Main Street.
