American Airlines will no longer be flying out of Long Island MacArthur Airport, according to a post on the airport’s facebook page on Tuesday.

“On June 20, American Airlines leadership confirmed that it is suspending service to Long Island MacArthur Airport effective September 7 due to a pilot shortage,” the post said. “We acknowledge that AA has been a longtime partner here at ISP with a loyal Long Island customer base who are affected & disappointed. We also recognize that the airline industry is struggling at this time, with many adverse situations including high fuel costs, & pilot shortages that hinder systemwide operational performance.”

In addition to Islip, the Dallas Morning News also reported that American Airlines will suspend flights to Toledo, OH and Ithaca, NY.

“We hope that when those issues begin to resolve, American Airlines will once again consider serving our loyal Long Island customers,” the airport’s Facebook page said.

American Airlines offers daily, non-stop service to Philadelphia, PA out of Islip.
