Written by Allison Gayne  |  20. June 2011

June 20, 2011 - Islandia, NY USA - The Arbors Assisted Living Communities proudly announces the appointment of Patrick Yngstrom as Veterans Liaison, a newly designed position created to support Long Island's large veteran population. Yngstrom will work directly with all five of The Arbors Communities, which are located in Bohemia, Islandia East, Islandia West, Hauppauge and Westbury. The former Nassau County Director of Veterans Affairs and long-time Deputy Director will oversee and carry out a variety of Island-wide veteran support initiatives such as The Arbors' signature Heroes Welcome Program and the Federal Government's Aid & Attendance veterans pension which includes the Home Care and Assisted Living Benefit. A decorated Vietnam vet and an active member of many veteran organizations and associations, Yngstrom currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook. He is also the Commander of the American Legion Post 1749 (North Bellmore), past Commander of the VFW Post 2770 (Bellmore), past president of the United Veterans Organization of Nassau County, founder and past president of POW-MIA Coalition of Long Island, and past commander of the Vietnam War Veterans Association, of which he remains a board member. "I'm thrilled to be a part of The Arbors team," commented Yngstrom. "I wanted to work with an organization that gave back to the veterans community and The Arbors exemplifies what it means to be a good corporate citizen. Their assisted living communities are remarkably affordable for veterans and their immediate families as many can receive up to a 20% discount off their monthly fees. No other Assisted Living Community provides this type of program, and I'm proud to deliver it to those who served this country." Yngstrom will serve as a veteran's advocate, conducting seminars and educating veterans and their families about The Arbors' unique programs. He will also assist eligible veterans with the Aid & Attendance pension process and guide them to the benefits they deserve. Yngstrom will also be a featured guest speaker and presenter at more than 50 United Veterans Organizations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties throughout the year. The Arbors prides itself in caring for the men and women who have served our country. After the overwhelming response we received from our Heroes Welcome Program in 2008, we realized how many Long Island veterans are in need of more advocacy and support," said Christine Herting, Regional Director, The Arbors Assisted Living Communities. "Patrick is someone who exudes great leadership and has a firsthand perspective on veteran-related issues and concerns. In selecting him as our new Veterans Liaison, we are able to enhance our outreach for our veteran community and continue our mission by giving back to all of those who have given so much for our country." After his discharge from the United States Army, Yngstrom worked for Consolidated Edison (Con Edison) as a Union Representative for 24 years. He later pursued his personal mission of assisting Veterans and served for 10 years with the County as Deputy Director and Director of Veterans Affairs prior to joining The Arbors. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Valley Stream, New York, he currently has lived in North Merrick for over 31 years. He and his wife of 35 years, Nancy, have two children, Dawn and Daniel.
