Jefferson’s Ferry, a not-for-profit Life Plan Community, recently developed two scholarship programs to Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) nursing programs. One $2,000 scholarship will be offered to a high school senior; another $2,000 scholarship is available to eligible Jefferson’s Ferry employees and their dependent children.  The scholarships will be awarded later this summer.

To qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must be a new, full time student who is enrolled or intends to enroll in a nursing program. A high school GPA of 75 or 2.0 is required, along with a letter of recommendation.  Applicants must be a resident of Coram, Centereach, Setauket (including East and South Setauket), Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Station or Selden.  For more information on SCCC scholarship programs, visit www.sunysuffolk.edu/Scholarships

Jefferson’s Ferry full and part time employees and their dependent children may also apply for a SCCC scholarship.  The employee must be in good standing and have 12 months’ tenure at Jefferson’s Ferry to be eligible. A  GPA of 75 or 2.0, a letter of recommendation, and an essay describing the applicant’s interest in nursing are required.

Jefferson’s Ferry also offers full reimbursement to any employee who completes Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training at NorthShore Career Training Institute in Ronkonkoma.

“We are always interested in supporting the careers of those interested in starting or furthering their training in the health care profession,” said Bob Caulfield, president and CEO of Jefferson’s Ferry. “These programs elevate the skills of our employees, help us retain and recruit highly trained health care workers, and overall support the larger community.”
