This week Discover Long Island will kick-off a weeklong celebration of the time-honored Long Island tradition of the 152^nd Belmont Stakes.  The new ’Belmont First’ Facebook LIVE series will help fans plan an at-home Belmont experience with a weeklong schedule of daily LIVE events that feature the history, flavor and character of Long Island.

“For the first time since its inception, Long Island’s Belmont Stakes will be running virtually and for the first time, it will be the first leg in the American Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing,” said Kristen Jarnagin, President & CEO of Discover Long Island. “As one of the first sporting events to run live in the State of New York since March, we are proud to host this event and celebrate its history-making moments. As people around the world tune into this historic event, we want to share insights on how to incorporate Long Island, NY flavor and fun into in-home viewings with family and friends.” 

The series will kick-off with an address from Nassau County Executive Laura Curran on Monday, June 15 at 11:30 a.m. ET, sharing insight on the momentous event for the region and this year’s historic virtual hosting since its inception in 1867. The event is set to the be the first sporting event to run live in The State of New York since March with a spectator-less crowd on Saturday, June 20.
