Saturday's Top 10: The Scoop on Homemade Ice Cream Parlors

Written by Debbi Spiegel  |  15. June 2013

Here's the scoop: Ice cream is summer's favorite sweet treat.  A warm night isn’t complete without a scoop (or more!) of ice cream to top it off. Long Island has some excellent homemade ice cream treats with wacky and original flavors, with all the toppings to beat out the freezer section of your grocery store any day.  You can take your family to any one of these old fashioned ice cream parlors and it's like stepping into a time travel machine.  You can get anything trom a plain scoop of vanilla to an exotic flavor or a fancy sundae.

The first ice cream parlor in America opened in New York City in 1776. American colonists were the first to use the term "ice cream".  Dolly Madison served it in the White House in 1812.

These ice cream parlors take special pride in all of their products. The ice cream and toppings are prepared daily on the premises using the freshest dairy cream, berries, and nuts.  They use as many local products as possible too.

Chill out at one of these great homemade ice cream parlors.
