Senator Brooks Helps Secure Funding For Pedestrian Safety In Town Of Babylon
Babylon, NY - June 13, 2018 - Senator John Brooks announced that as part of Governor Cuomo’s groundbreaking Pedestrian Safety Action Plan investment in pedestrian safety, Babylon will receive a portion of $2.78 million allocated to Suffolk County locations for Phase 1 of Suffolk County’s Pedestrian Signal Safety Improvement Project. This announcement comes in anticipation of a public service campaign to focus on educating the public on driver and pedestrian behavior, set to begin June 15.
“I thank Governor Cuomo for prioritizing this important and urgent initiative in Babylon,”said Senator John Brooks. “As we enter the summer months, there is heightened focus on pedestrian safety. For local residents as well as drivers, this monumental investment will go a long way towards ensuring safety improvements at crosswalks.”
These funds will help the Town of Babylon to make pedestrian safety improvements to promote public safety. Between 2009 and 2013, 454 pedestrian crashes occurred in Babylon. Through this initiative, pedestrian safety will be improved through public education, police officer training, enforcement of existing pedestrian safety laws, and funding for safety improvement projects.
