Whether you decide to travel by foot onto the ferry or to bring along your car, the Long Island Ferry Services accommodate you with ease. There are two ferry lines that run year long across the Long Island Sound that connect us to two different locations in Connecticut. What makes ferries so popular is that the ride is an extremely easy and enjoyable one and travel time is less than an hour and a half. So sit back, relax, and enjoy these facts. Cross Sound Ferry Services, Inc. takes you on an easy hour and twenty minute ride from Orient Point, LI to New London, CT. The ferry accepts cars, passengers, trucks and walk-ons and runs all year round, multiple times a day, for your convenience in traveling. They are located at 41270 Main Road, at the end of Rte. 25 and parking at the terminal is free on a first come, first served basis. It is recommended to arrive early. The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company’s ride to Bridgeport, CT from Long Island is approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. The ferry allows automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, buses and car trailer combinations and walk on passengers as well. The Port Jefferson dock is located at 102 W Broadway. The Viking Fleet Interstate Fast Ferry travels from Montauk to Block Island, RI. The dock address is 462 West Lake Drive. The ride is about an hour and fifteen minutes each way and is passengers only. However, bicycles can be accommodated. Another ferry service available is to Shelter Island to or from Greenport. There is the option to go either to North Side Shelter Island or to South Side Shelter Island by either the North Ferry Company or the South Ferry, Inc. Both services are available year round and can accommodate cars, passengers and trucks and both rides are less than ten minutes each. You can take the Davis Park Ferry Company, located at 80 Brightwood Street. Their phone number is 631-475-1665. No vehicles are permitted on this ferry boat. The Bay Shore line runs to Saltaire, Ocean Beach, Atlantique, Kismet, Dunewood, Fair Harbor, Seaview and Ocean Bay Park. With peak service running from May to September, and limited service year round (as long as weather permits), this thirty minute ride is a simple way to get to Fire Island. Sayville hosts two different ferries running to Fire Island Pines, Cherry Grove and Fire Island National Seashore, Sailor’s Haven/Sunken Forest. The Sayville Ferry Service runs from April to November, only twenty minutes each way, while the Sunken Forest Ferry Service runs from May to October, thirty minutes each way.
