Personal DIY Gift Ideas for Dad This Father’s Day
A great Father’s Day gift doesn’t have to be something big and expensive. It should be something thoughtful and from the heart. DIY gifts are a great way to show dad the effort and thought you’ve put into his gift this year. Dad can utilize your gift with pride, knowing the time and effort you’ve put into it. Your gift will be truly one of a kind.
Sunday June 19th is right around the corner and for those of us who still haven’t pinned down a gift idea, or are drawing a blank this year, here are some fun DIY gift suggestions. All of the ideas can be customized and personalized to your lucky guy’s hobbies and interests. They are also fairly easy, hassle free, enjoyable projects to do with the kids or on your own.
Themed Card: A themed homemade card is a sure thing to make dad smile this Father’s Day. If dad likes soccer, or fixing things around the house, use construction paper and markers to make a card in the same shapes and colors as his favorite pastime. Once you're finished making the card be sure to write in a heartfelt message, to remind dad of your love and appreciation for him on his special day.
Apron: If dad likes to cook and man the grill during the summer time a personalized apron could be just the thing. Start off by purchasing a plain apron and start decorating! If dad has a nerdy side, decorate the apron in the fashion of dad’s favorite superhero. If Superman is his favorite put the Superman emblem on the front of the apron. Dad can proudly wear your gift while feeling like his favorite superhero all the while working the grill.
Candy: There are so many great things you can do with candy to appease dad’s sweet tooth this Father’s Day. Use an empty 6-pack and fill it with little hard candies he likes. You can use ones like, Hot Tamales, Mike and Ikes, Skittles, etc. You could even separate them by color or flavor! Another idea is to put together a bouquet of some of his favorite large candy bars. Add some pipe cleaners in the shape of leaves and flowers and tie it all together with ribbon to keep the bouquet in tack.
Pocket Tie: Don’t get dad just any old tie this year. How about you get dad a tie and then make it multi-purpose! Dad can feel sleek and stylish in his new tie and also have a spot close by to store his cell phone, credit card, or iPod. You will need to unstitch the back of a tie, cut out measured fabric swatches, and sew in a pocket, so this is a gift that will require adult help, supervision and basic sewing skills.
