About Long Island Beaches

The weather is sunny and hot and the beaches are open for the season. Long Island’s beaches are some of the best beaches in the world. Whether you want to stay local or drive a bit further, there are enough beaches in order to choose which one is right for you. Whether you have children, want to go surfing or would rather a smaller beach with less of a crowd, Long Island’s selection of beaches offers it all. Jones Beach, located in Nassau County, attracts people from all over with its beautiful sand, relatively calm waters, long boardwalk with multiple food shops, surfing, piers, and a selection of beach related rentals. Another plus of Jones Beach is the Nikon Theater at Jones Beach, which puts on many concerts during the summer, usually headlining major artists. The outdoor seating arena is perfect for warm summer nights, and even cooler ones. A great vacation spot for many people all over is non-other than the Hamptons. However, by living on Long Island, the hot-spot is available to us in less than two hours. The Hamptons are home to over 20 beaches and although some require town permits, others do not and are available to any visitors. Sunken Meadow State Park is home to a small and easy beach, which for Suffolk County residents is a small and easy place to get to in order to relax. The three miles of beaches, on the Long Island Sound, are surrounded by the park which hosts cross-country events for many high school teams. Another little beach, convenient for families with small children is Crab Meadow. The beach is located only five minutes from Downtown Northport, which is a perfect area for families to walk around, enjoy the water, and dine at a nice restaurant after their relaxing day at the beach. Fire Island is one of Long Island’s biggest attractions. Perfect for daytrips, Fire Island is home to Ocean Beach, which offers tons of dining and places to stay. With the regulations on cars so strict and the streets uncluttered by honking horns, it is a relaxing and perfect way to spend the day or even a weekend. Another state park which offers an excellent beach is Robert Moses, located in Babylon. Offering about five miles of sandy beach, Robert Moses offers plenty of space for visitors to swim, surf, fish and relax. Calm water makes this beach great for children and a major perk is that it is open all year round.
