LIMA - the Long Island Museum Association, Inc.
Since 1975, LIMA has acted as the professional organization for museums and historic sites on Long Island. The purpose of the organization is to encourage excellence and professionalism in the field and promote awareness of services, programs and resources offered by its members. Quarterly meetings and a Conference are held each year. More than 80 museums and cultural institutions are members of LIMA. A quarterly newsletter, the LIMA NEWS is published and distributed to all museums, historical societies and historic sites in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. A Board of Directors is elected every two years and an Educators Committee, a special part of LIMA, concerns itself with issues in museum education.
Longisland.com has provided LIMA with a Museum page that lists and links you to these cultural institutions! You can visit and browse and learn about some new and some established spots on and about Long Island. At this time there are 78 sites listed, most with descriptions and info you would need to have to visit the sites in person. Many have listed their events on the Longisland.com Calendar.
Check out the Museum page, visit websites through links, call and ask questions, and most of all, go and visit some really interesting and unique cultural, historical and scientific institutions.
