Hot Spots: Weekly Watch for May 27 through May 30

It’s a short workweek for many with Memorial Day landing at the beginning of this week! Be sure to check out Memorial Day parades happening throughout Long Island on Monday. There are a few highlighted here. On Tuesday, check out the Awesome Animal Show at Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park and the play Lend Me a Tenor at Bay Street Theatre. On Wednesday, take a stroll through the grounds of Nassau County Museum of Art to enjoy a collection of sculptures and Vanessa Trouble & The Red Hot Swing Sextet at The Suffolk Theater. On Thursday, enjoy a Grecian festival at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and comedy with Kevin James at NYCB Theatre At Westbury. Check out the details below!

MONDAY – MAY 27, 2013

Who: Valley Stream Annual Memorial Day Parade
Info: The parade runs from Wheeler Avenue and Rockaway Parkway through the Valley Stream Business District on Rockaway Avenue and down to Valley Stream Boulevard, ending at the Village Green. A ceremony will be held following the parade at the Veteran’s Memorial at Hicks Street and West Valley Stream Boulevard.
Cost: Free Event
Time & Place: 9:30AM at Wheeler Avenue and Rockaway Parkway, Valley Stream

Who: Annual Mineola Memorial Day Parade And Ceremonies At Wilson Park
Info: Come out for the annual Memorial Day parade that will begin at Wilson Field by the pool and run along Westbury Avenue to Roslyn Road to Jericho and down Marcellus Road, ending at the park.
Cost: Free Event

TUESDAY – MAY 28, 2013

Who: Awesome Animal Show At Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park
Info: Enjoy a variety of animals, from macaws, cockatoos, pigs to house cats. There’s also Charlie the mini-donkey and Artium, a cute Jack Russell dog helper performing.
Cost: $18.95 For Adults, $16.95 For Children Age 3 – 11 Years

Who: Lend Me A Tenor At Bay Street Theatre
Info: The New York Times called Lend Me a Tenor a “true comic delirium!” In this uproarious and hysterically funny comedy play, an opera singer is scheduled to sing the lead in the opera Otello. Chaos ensues when his wife mistakenly leaves him a “Dear John” letter. The play continues to run through June 23.

WEDNESDAY – MAY 29, 2013

Who: Spring Sculpture Stroll At Nassau County Museum Of Art
Info: Enjoy a spring walk through the grounds of the museum’s collection of sculptures. Meet Senior Educator Jean Henning at the museum lobby for a brief introduction on the exhibit AB-EX / RE-CON: Abstract Expressionism Reconsidered. It’ll be followed by the sculpture tour. No reservations needed.
Cost: $5, Free for Members

Who: Vanessa Trouble & The Red Hot Swing Sextet At The Suffolk Theater
Info: Vanessa Trouble, vocalist and band leader, brings an energetic, nuanced sensibility to the American jazz and swing songbook. Championship ballroom and Latin dancers, Mark James and Karen Lupo are also on hand to introduce you to swing, the foxtrot and lindy.
Cost: $30

THURSDAY – MAY 30, 2013

Who: Grecian Festival At Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church
Info: From May 30 to June 2, come out to enjoy this festival complete with homemade pastries and food, rides, games and vendors. There’s also a grand raffle featuring a 2013 Ford Mustang or $20,000.

Who: Kevin James At NYCB Theatre At Westbury
Info: Kevin James started in stand-up comedy on Long Island before he broke into film by starring with Will Smith in Hitch. Enjoy a night of laughter with Kevin James!
