Fatal Crash on Long Island Leaves One Dead and Another Seriously Injured

According to the Suffolk County Police, a utility pole was struck by a 1998 Jeep that was traveling southbound on Great River Road, around 100 feet from Montauk Highway. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger, identified as NeriBeth Medina-Mas, aged 25 and from Brentwood, was declared dead at the location by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Bay Shore, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore and is in a critical but stable condition.

Detectives are seeking information on the accident and asking anyone who may have information to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
