NCPD: Homeless Man in Police Custody After Threatening to Shoot Baldwin Church Parishioner

Baldwin, NY - April 17, 2017 - First Squad detectives report the arrest of a homeless man from Baldwin for an incident that occurred on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 6:32 pm in Baldwin.
 
According to detectives, Jose Rodriguez, 50, entered Inglesia Despirtar Church, 1937 Grand Avenue, approached a parishioner whom he knows, put his fist up to the male victims face and stated he was going to kill him. Rodriguez then placed his hand to his pants pocket to indicate he had a weapon and stated out loud that he was going to come back to shoot the victim and other worshipers in the church placing all in fear of their safety. Rodriguez then left the church on foot.
 
First precinct officers who responded to the scene located Rodriguez a short distance away and placed him under arrest without further incident. No weapon was recovered.
 
Rodriguez is charged with Menacing 3rd Degree, Disruption or disturbance of a religious service, funeral, burial or memorial service and Making a Terroristic Threat. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 4/17/2017.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
