Foodies for a Cause

Written by Jeanne Murphy  |  15. April 2011

On Tuesday, May 3, hundreds of food and wine lovers will gather at Appliance World of Huntington to attend "Foodies for a Cause", a fundraiser to benefit Contractors for Kids. Appliance World's unique showroom features "live" kitchens where some of Long Island's favorite restaurants will showcase their food. Over a dozen chefs will bring a taste of their favorite recipes together under one roof. There will also be grilling taking place outdoors, as well as beer and Long Island wine. Contractors for Kids is a not for profit organization founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in our communities who are dealing with the illness, injury or death of a child. This all-volunteer organization is committed to assuring that the financial hardship brought on by the illness of a child does not destroy an already hurt family. Help is provided whether needed to pay a phone bill or mortgage payment, aid in paying medical bills or to help with transportation and hotel costs if treatments need to take place away from home. In the heartbreaking case when a child does not survive, Contractors for Kids will help provide financial support to cover funeral costs. The party will spill out into the tented parking lot for dancing under the stars to the live music of The Doghouse Blues Band. Gift baskets filled with goodies provided by local businesses will be raffled off, and a "Tree of Hope" will bloom with the generous donations of our sponsors and guests. Participating restaurants & chefs to date include: Mamma Lombardi's, Mascali Restaurant, Randazzo's Clam Bar, Rhapsody Cakes, Atlantis Marine World, BSH Corporate Chef, California Pizza Kitchen, Harbor Crab, Roast Sandwich House, Stalco Grillers, Wolf/Sub Zero Corporate Chefs, Shoreline Beverage Tickets are only $50. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. www.contractorsforkids.org/foodies
