Students at the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Brookhaven Technical Center (BTC) in Bellport cut class, ran from the building, and high fived each other as an example of cutting school and delinquency during the filming of "B-roll" for a Something of Substance TV segment that will be aired on public cablevision. This was a learning experience for both the ESBOCES Dramatic Arts and TV Production students. They created "B-roll" for the segment and learned about blocking, direction, framing-a-shot, lighting, and how secondary footage, "B-roll", can add meaning to broadcast news and public service announcements (PSAs). Retired TV Production teacher Dan Brenner and director of the piece said, "Alternatives for Youth (AFY), the Family Service League, and the Suffolk County Prevention Resource Center focus on getting kids and families back on track. ESBOCES students were given the opportunity to help demonstrate the issue of cutting and delinquency. They also put the skills and knowledge they are learning in their ESBOCES programs to good practical use." Rain Harrison, Center Moriches UFSD; Rosemary Bair, Islip UFSD; Jesse Michael, Islip UFSD, and Cathy Herbst, Westhampton Beach UFSD, from the Dramatic Arts program, appreciated having the opportunity to stage and illustrate the issue of cutting and delinquency. Rain said, "Being a part of helping people find the resources they need is great."
