"Areal Flood Advisory" The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a * flood advisory for... western Suffolk County in southeastern New York... eastern Nassau County in southeastern New York... * until 800 PM EDT. * At 604 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Islip, Brentwood, Levittown, Freeport, Commack, Huntington Station, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Plainview, Massapequa, Hauppauge, Syosset, Huntington, Babylon and Farmingdale. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely. A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
