Nassau County Department of Health Alerts Residents to Potential Phone Scam

Nassau County, NY - March 29, 2018 - The Nassau County Department of Health has released the following alert to residents about a potential phone scam:
 
Please be informed that the main telephone number to the Nassau County Department of Health (Information & Referral 227-9697) has been ‘spoofed’. Calls are going out to the public which reflect the DOH’s main I&R number, although they are not the one’s making the calls. NCDOH has informed Nassau County Department of Information & Technology and Nassau County Police of this scam.
  
The Nassau County Department of Health has been made aware that these illicit callers are seeking personal information and identification. NCDOH does not call residents asking for this type of information.
 
Most residents are telling us that the callers claim to be representatives from Health Insurance Companies.
 
This information is being provided to residents to make them aware of these ongoing scams. If you believe you may have been a victim of any of these scams, please call 911 immediately.
 
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible are asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All calls remain anonymous.
