NEW PROGRAM MOTIVATES TEENS TO APPRECIATE LI WONDERS
 

In response to a survey sent to parents of teenagers and the teenagers themselves, The Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL) is providing a unique experience that combines the exploration of Long Island with service learning to protect it. Dubbed Teen Venture, teenagers from 13-15 years of age will spend each week around a theme including Ocean Explorations, Trek Long Island, and Animal Adventures. During each week, teenagers will travel to unique Long Island places and engage with the professionals in each place.

The dates for each week are June 25-29, July 9-13, and July 16 -20. Teenagers can sign up for one week or all three weeks. Instructors for the program are scientists/teachers and some of the time will be spent at The Center for Science engaging in a project so that the teens will gain a greater understanding about their world. “The idea is for teenagers to get up close and personal with the Long Island environment and its wonders, “ stated Dr. Ray Ann Havasy from CSTL. She goes on to say that “we want teenagers to not only appreciate Long Island but understand how fragile these spectacular places are and how they can be involved in protecting them.”
