Lion or Lamb - Enjoy the End of March No Matter the Weather

Written by Chelsea Triola  |  25. March 2014

The end of March is approaching us quickly, but the weather has become a bit of a mixed bag lately. We have had a couple of days here and there of some beautiful weather this month, however the week ahead of us is expected to be a bit of a roller coaster. From the freezing temps and snow expected this evening, to temps hitting almost 60 degrees by the end of the week, the forecast really has some big ups and downs as we finish off the month of March.

The old saying, “In like a lion, out like a lamb” has been used as a descriptor for the month of March for ages - it starts out with cold and unpleasant weather, then typically ends on a much warmer, more pleasant note as we enter the Spring season. Although we entered into Spring last week, the weather hasn’t quite caught up to the change of season yet. Don't let the uncertainty of the forecast keep you from having fun - we've got the scoop on great ways to stay busy this week rain or shine! Whether or not March leaves like a lamb, there will be plenty of exciting things to do this week:

Visit a Museum
Heading to a museum with the kids is a great educational and bonding experience for the entire family. Museums on Long Island feature a large variety of topics to choose from depending on what you’d like to learn about. Spend the day together while gaining knowledge about your local Long Island surroundings or about other interesting topics such as music, the arts, science or airplanes!

Enjoy a Day at The Theater
You can never go wrong with watching a movie or catching a great play on a chilly day. See a show with the family at a local theater or head to a movie theater for a flick and some popcorn. The local Long Island movie theaters feature new films each week, making it possible to see anything from an action-packed film to a family-friendly comedy perfect for the kids.

Get Involved in Indoor Sports
Just because the weather isn’t quite right yet, doesn’t mean you still can’t play outdoor sports. Head to a nearby school that has open gym where you can play some basketball or go together as a family to the bowling alley. Take on the batting cages too if the weather permits and you’re able to handle some of the chill.

Check Out at Local Library
The libraries on Long Island offer a wide range of activities for both adults and children to partake in. They offer movie nights, children’s workshops where they can let their creative side show and learn about new things and classes for adults as well.

Go on a Seal Hike
The next few weeks are filled with fun Seal Hikes at different locations across the Island - and if you're a fan of getting out and enjoying nature, this is the perfect way to spend the day with your family! Take in the crisp air while observing and learning all about New York’s seals. Be sure to go prepared with comfortable clothing and shoes for long distance walking and bring a camera to share photos with friends!

Take this chance to enjoy all these great activities before the warm, outdoor events start happening. Just because the weather hasn’t turned out the way we would have liked, doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the end of March!
