PRESS RELEASE Media Contact: Amanda DiGiovana IMMEDIATE RELEASE SPRING IS HERE, YOGA WILL ENHANCE YOUR RUNNING ABILITIES (ALL ATHLETES ARE BENEFITTED BY YOGA) REVOLUTION YOGA AND RUNNING TEAM IN TRAINING TO HOLD YOGA FOR RUNNERS FUNDRAISER BENEFITTING THE LEUKEMIA LYMPHOMA SOCIETY Rockville Centre, New York, March 17 2011 - Revolution Yoga of Rockville Centre will join with Team in Training participant Ariana Golub on April 2, 2011 at 12:30pm in hosting a yoga class to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Runners often complain of knee issues, sore hamstrings and aching joints from repetitive impact. Our bodies attempt to avoid injury by compensating for instability by putting stress on joints, muscles and bone. This leads to increasing hardness and inflexibility. As shock absorbers, these should be soft with give. Hard, tight muscles are vulnerable to tears. Repetitive actions, such as running release endorphins that give runners such a good feeling it can conceal the pain of oncoming injuries. Yoga has long been touted to greatly enhance health in those who practice it. Specifically, it increases strength, balance, flexibility, agility and mental focus while at the same time decreasing stress. While all individuals deserve to experience these improvements, they are especially crucial to athletes and in particular to runners to bring balance back into the muscles and joints. It is for these reasons that Ariana Golub, a current participant of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training (TNT) chose to call on Revolution Yoga to host a special yoga class for runners in which a generous portion of proceeds will benefit LLS. Participants of TNT embark on a journey of intense training for various endurance events, such as marathons and triathlons, while simultaneously raising money so that LLS can continue in its mission to find a cure for blood cancers. Yoga teacher, and avid runner, Rebecca Gathmann will be teaching the class at the Revolution Yoga studio aiding students through progressive movements focused on bringing the body and mind into balance so that they may perform better through daily activities. "I have only been running for a few years now, but I know that stretching, especially stretches through yoga poses, have helped my body and mind tremendously during training", said Ariana Golub, current TNT participant training for the Rock N Roll San Diego Marathon taking place on June 5, 2011. "I hope this event at Revolution Yoga will raise the interest of all individuals, not just runners, because the positive effects of yoga are long lasting and applicable to all. Why not do something good for your body while helping LLS improve the bodies of affected patients?". Amanda DiGiovanna, owner of Revolution Yoga says, " Whether it be basketball, baseball, volleyball, running, golfing or biking all of my client athletes benefit from using yoga as a cross-training tool. It helps them avoid injury, improve endurance, stay in 'the zone' longer, and heals/ balances the body after the repetitive overuse of musculature required for any given sport." Participants will be charged $25, for a full hour class, 60% of which will go directly to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. All are invited to stick around after the class for some rejuvenating and energizing snacks.
