Written by Argere Loizides  |  16. March 2011

The New York Dance Theatre/Frank Ohman School of Ballet is pleased to announce that ballerina Allegra Kent will be the guest honoree at its April 25th "Once A Dancer..." Gala at the Smithtown Landing Country Club in Smithtown, NY. Ms. Kent, a muse of the legendary George Balanchine, had an outstanding career with the New York City Ballet for thirty years and remains a dominant force in continuing the Balanchine tradition. She created roles in many Balanchine ballets including Ivesiana, Agon, Bugaku, and Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet. Ms. Kent's unique qualities as a dancer inspired Mr. Balanchine to revive the ballet Night Shadow, renaming it La Sinnambula just for her. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and will offer entertainment, cocktails, dinner, dancing, and vintage clips of Ms. Kent's career. She will be accompanied by Jacques d'Amboise, world renowned dancer and founder of the National Dance Institute. Also happening on the same day will be the Ohman School of Ballet's first annual Golf Outing which will begin at 9:00 a.m. with breakfast, followed by golf on the beautiful Smithtown Landing Golf Course, lunch and prizes. For information and/or reservations for either or both of these events, please call 631.462.6266 or visit www.ohmanballet.org
