Your Career Gets Better When You Make It Better

Are career woes and stresses getting the best of you? Are they occupying the majority of your time and thoughts? Are you tolerating your frustrations because you are waiting for some outside "thing" to save you? Or, are you tackling your career issues head on? Your career gets better when you make it better. You can wait for opportunities to come your way, or you can go out and grab them. You may be discouraged or tired of trying. But the alternative is having a career that you survive, rather than a career where you thrive. So How Do You Find The Courage And The Strength To Pick Yourself Up Again? Here's How: 1. Acknowledge That It's Time To Tell The Truth The truth is you are stuck are you are not moving forward. You've been telling yourself that you are trying different avenues, but in reality you are just going through the motions. In addition, you've been telling others that you are busy pursuing career opportunities and/or other directions, but in reality you have given up. (Even if you say you haven't) Tell the truth to yourself and to others. The truth will give you the freedom necessary to get moving again. 2. Acknowledge That It's Time You Got More Think back to when your career was soaring, or when you believed it could soar. Remember how good it felt? It's time to recapture that feeling. The sum of your career is so much more than the bump in the road you are experiencing now. It's about years of achievements you can be proud of. Do you want more? Start by acknowledging that you deserve more. This action is an important piece of the puzzle. 3. Acknowledge That It's Time To Design Your Future Your future happens when you plan for it. And yes, you can't plan for everything (Many of you did not see the momentary downturn your careers may have taken), but this does not mean that you stop planning altogether. What do you want your career to look like? If you already had reached your goal, what would you be doing differently? How would you be feeling? Once you visualize your success, you can create a plan to achieve it. 4. Acknowledge That It's Time To Implement Your Plan The hard part of any plan is the creation process. Once this is complete, the rest is implementation. Now that you have your plan, it's time to get moving. Open your calendar and schedule time to implement specific parts of your plan. You don't have to implement everything today, but unless you get started, you will not like where you end up tomorrow. 5. Acknowledge That It's Time To Ask For Help Nobody's going to think less of you because you are stuck. They will think less of you if you are not doing anything about it. Asking for help is the most courageous thing you can do. It tells the world that you understand there is a situation that you need assistance with and you are going to the right people to help you. Don't think of asking in terms of "forever", but rather in terms of "right now" so you can regroup and build the brand new you. So what do you say? You only have one life to live so it might as well be a life you love!
