A 45-year-old inmate at Nassau County Correctional Facility in East Meado has died.

The inmate was found unresponsive in his cell and was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.

The cause of death is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.

Nassau County Police stated the death was "of an undetermined nature."
