Nassau SPCA: Owner of Merrick Puppy Store Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

Merrick, NY - March 2, 2018 - The Nassau County SPCA announces the arrest of the owner of The Puppy Store in Merrick, NY for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance, a class A misdemeanor. 
 
On January 30, responding to a complaint, Nassau County SPCA detectives visited The Puppy Store. They observed a cage in the basement with an approximately 6 month old Labrador Retriever inside unable to walk. The dog was transported by Nassau County detectives to a veterinarian for immediate care.
 
Nassau County SPCA detectives conducted an investigation and today they arrested Robert Lawrence, 40, of Woodmere for failure to provide veterinary care to a dog at his store.
 
Mr Lawrence was processed by the Nassau County District Attorney's Animal Crimes Unit. He will be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead, NY.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
