Is your BIRD becoming GODZILLA?

Written by animalpsychology  |  26. February 2001

More and more homes are acquiring exotic pets. To many people, birds seem easier to care for than dogs and cats. However, there appears to be a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding the emotional and psychological needs of most species of bird. Birds are not *domestic* animals. Because they are being bred as companions and, the handfeeding process and selection of breeding stock can certainly create a much friendlier and less fearful bird regardless of species. BUT...the average parrot of any species is quite a demanding presence in one's home and requires a great deal of time, attention and patient discipline, as well as consistent training. If you own a parrot of any species and are experiencing problem behaviors, do not despair! Animal behaviorists are available to assist you *fix* the feathered brat's naughty behaviors and keep him or her in your home as a healthy and happy companion. Don't dump your bird! His next home may be his last! You've made a lifetime commitment (I hope) and there IS help available!
