Nassau County Police Receive New Bikes for Community Policing

Written by Lon Cohen  |  24. February 2021

On Tuesday, the Nassau County Police Department received a donation of six new bikes for the Community Affairs officers as part of its community policing efforts. Through Community Policing the Nassau County Community Affairs Unit maintains a partnership in the community between the police, residents, schools and many other community organizations.

The state of the art high-performance bicycles came from the NCPD Foundation, a non-profit that supports the county’s police programs. The bikes cost about $1,400 each and add to the 100 already in use by the NCPD. The new bikes are lighter, have better shock absorbers and advanced braking systems, according to the NCPD Foundation.

“With these new bicycles, the Community Affairs Unit can form and strengthen relationships between the Police and the communities they serve,” the NCPD Foundation said in a Facebook post about the donation.

Commissioner of Police Patrick J. Ryder and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran joined the NCPD Foundation to present the bikes to the NCPD.
