A Long Island community is mourning and coming together after a devastating incident in Farmingville left a mother dead and her teenage child seriously injured in what authorities are investigating as an attempted murder-suicide.

According to Suffolk County Police, officers responded to a Farmingville home following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman unresponsive inside the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A teenage family member was also found suffering from serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Detectives believe the incident was domestic in nature and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Officials have not indicated that there is any ongoing threat to the public.

In the wake of the heartbreaking event, neighbors and friends have begun rallying around the surviving teen and extended family members. Community members have shared messages of support, organized outreach efforts, and are exploring ways to assist with medical and funeral expenses.

Residents described the family as well-known in the neighborhood, expressing shock and sadness over what unfolded.
