West Islip Seniors Win Scholarships

West Islip High School (WIHS) seniors Joseph V. and Mark F. won second place honors recently in the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA) Regional Competition in Whitestone, NY. Both young men are attending morning automotive training classes at the Edward J. Milliken Technical Center (MTC) in Oakdale, while attending WIHS in the afternoon. In addition to winning trophies, they were offered college scholarships at several technical colleges. Joseph has accepted a $3,000 scholarship from Universal Technical Institute in Pennsylvania where he will be taking automotive classes and training at a Ford dealership. Mark, who turned down a $7,500 scholarship from Lincoln Technical Institute to study Automotive Technology, plans to stay local. Joseph will continue his automotive studies in Pennsylvania after graduation from ESBOCES and West Islip High School in June and Mark plans to stay local.
