The Third Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 2:10 PM for incidents occurring at multiple religious institutions throughout Nassau County.
 
According to detectives, an extensive investigation led to the arrest of Defendant William Hepworth, 60, for the following incidents:
 
 On December 12, 2025 the defendant damaged a donation box and removed US currency at Maria Regina Roman Catholic Church located at 3945 Jerusalem Avenue, Seaford.
 
 On December 22, 2025 the defendant removed a donation box containing US currency from Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church located at 55 East Jamaica Avenue, Valley Stream.
 
 On January 12, 2026 the defendant unsuccessfully attempted to remove US currency from a donation box at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church located at 2320 Bedford Avenue, Bellmore.
 
 On February 10, 2026 the defendant damaged and removed a donation box at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church located at 534 Broadway, Carle Place.
 
Defendant William Hepworth is charged with three counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Possession of Burglar Tools, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Petit Larceny and Attempted Petit Larceny. He will be arraigned on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
