Uniondale, NY - February 13, 2019 - As winter bills arrive and the cold weather continues, PSEG Long Island reminds customers heating assistance is available.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program that assists financially constrained New Yorkers with the cost of heating their homes in the winter months. Qualifications for HEAP benefits are based on household income, household size and primary heating source. Customers facing heat or heat-related energy emergencies may also qualify for emergency benefits.

HEAP and emergency HEAP eligible customers may also qualify for the PSEG Long Island Household Assistance Program. The Household Assistance Program provides a credit on electric bills for customers who receive benefits from a federally funded program such as HEAP, Medicaid, SNAP, TA, SSI or SNA. These customers may be eligible to receive $20 or more monthly.

“It’s very important for families who struggle to pay their utility bills to know that they can receive help,” said Richard Walden, PSEG Long Island’s vice president of customer operations. “Our customer advocates are available to assist customers with all the likely options.”

Customers needing assistance due to unforeseen circumstances may also apply for Project Warmth. Project Warmth is an emergency assistance program administered by United Way of Long Island to help families and individuals in a financial crisis deal with energy emergencies. It is a one-time grant to pay for heating costs.

Additionally, eligible PSEG Long Island customers may qualify to have energy-saving appliances and devices installed in their homes for free. The Residential Energy Affordability Partnership (REAP) helps income-eligible customers lower their energy costs by finding household energy-saving opportunities.
