Assemblyman Montesano: Supporting Seniors Living Out Their Golden Years at Home

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  12. February 2019

Long Island, NY - February 12, 2019 - Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,Ref-Glen Head) is happy to announce he is co-sponsoring a bill (A.3240) to establish an Aging in Place Council in an effort to help support seniors who would like to remain in their homes or communities for the rest of their lifetime or to “age in place.”

“Everyone deserves the right to enjoy their golden years wherever they feel most comfortable,” said Montesano. “While yes, there are instances where it is no longer safe for a senior to be living at home, we should not be forcing them to uproot their lives without first doing all that we can to keep them both at home and safe. It can be a devastating hit to a senior’s pride to be told they can’t live in the comfort of their own home anymore, so we really need to be providing better support to help them do so for as long as they can. They have worked hard for decades to provide and take care of the younger generations, it’s high time we provide the same for them. It is the respectful and right thing to do.”

The Aging in Place Council would take a look at the issues which make “aging in place” difficult for New York’s senior population. These issues include access to affordable transportation, in-home medical care, community activities, senior support services, wellness programs and housing.
