Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagels Raise $22,000 for LI Breast Cancer Organizations

(Long Island, NY) February 11, 2011 - Each fall, Panera Bread rolls out its Pink Ribbon Bagels, symbols of hope, to help support local area breast cancer organizations. This year, the month-long campaign raised more than $22,000 for the WALK for Women Breast Cancer Fund whose aim is to provide funding to help ensure that the lifesaving screening and support services, which many women count on, continue to operate. Thanks to the money raised by Panera Bread and other sponsors of the WALK for Women Breast Cancer Fund, nearly a dozen breast cancer education, screening, research and emotional and daily living support programs across Long Island and New York will benefit. Among those organizations are the local Lending a Helping Hand Programs, Prevention is the Cure, a collaborative educational program spearheaded by the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, The Breast Cancer Research Program at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Latina Breast Cancer Support Group which helps Long Island's minority underserved, uninsured and underinsured population. "WALK 97.5 does an amazing job each year of getting the word out to women on Long Island about breast cancer prevention," says Greg George, Director of Operations for Panera Bread. "We are proud to partner with them, for a second year, and we're delighted to present a check for $22,155 to the WALK for Women Breast Cancer Fund." Women who have not had a recent mammogram are reminded that early detection saves lives.
