Man Caught on Video Stealing Car Engine

Suffolk County police are searching for a man who was caught on video stealing the engine of a car. Surveillance video shows the unknown man taking the engine from a Subaru car inside of Auto Tech, an auto repair shop in Huntington on Spring Road, around 10:30pm. The man is seen loading the engine into his van and leaving the scene. Investigators ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Three Injured in DWI Accident

When police responded to a call of a two-car accident on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway near the Newbridge Road exit in Bellmore, what they found was Angelo Graci, 61, of Elmont, fleeing the scene of the accident on foot. The accident occurred at approximately 10:45pm Monday night. Graci had been driving his BMW car while intoxicated and rear-ended a Lexus. Graci left his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot but was stopped by police. His blood alcohol content at the time was 0.22 percent. The driver of the Lexus and his passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Graci was arrested for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and traffic violations.

Hempstead Clerk Tied and Beaten in Robbery

A Hempstead store clerk was beat, pepper-sprayed and tied up over the weekend at El Rey Miscellaneous on North Franklin Street. The suspects asked the clerk, 35, to assist them near the back of the store around 11:30am Friday. There they pepper-sprayed, kicked and punched the man before bounding him with duct tape. The suspects stole cash from the register and left the scene on foot. The victim was able to be treated at the scene for minor injuries. The suspects are described as Hispanic, one with a gold tooth and mustache. Third Squad detectives ask anyone with information call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Arrest Made in Middle Island Market Robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Middle Island market on Monday evening. The suspect entered Barnwood Market at approximately 5:15pm wearing a cover over his face and demanded money from a clerk, threatening the use of what appeared to be a gun concealed in his pocket. The man stole an entire register from the store and fled the scene in what was reported as a Dodge Stratus. Sixth Precinct Patrol Officer James Carley was canvassing the area and spotted a car matching the description and approached the vehicle. The suspect exited the car and took off running. As officers were impounding the Dodge the suspect returned the vehicle and was taken into custody. The suspect has been identified as Francisco Cruz, 22, of Patchogue. Cruz is being charged with Robbery in the 1st degree.
