Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a Bay Shore woman in Hauppauge this morning.
Jonathan Matzelle was driving a 2025 Toyota SUV westbound on Route 347 in Hauppauge when a 2007 Lexus being driven by Nelson Canales eastbound on Route 347 attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Route 111. The vehicles collided causing the Lexus to overturn at 9:36 a.m.
A front passenger in the Lexus, Sandra Rodriguez-Trujillo, 50, of Bay Shore, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the fire department. She was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries.
Both Matzelle, 37, of Ridge, and Canales, 44, of Bay Shore, were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
