Family Service League (FSL) was recently awarded a $37,465 grant from United Way of Long Island in support of a wide array of services for youth. FSL provides services to Suffolk County youth including mental health, educational, and recreational programs. FSL's programs are designed to "keep kids on track" by addressing academic achievement, family issues, and social/emotional development. United Way of Long Island awarded 109 grants to local nonprofit agencies, totaling $1,390,405 for the 2012 year. United Way also continues to pursue funding that helps its nonprofit partners to provide critical services to Long Islanders in need. Despite a prolonged economic climate which has been particularly challenging to Long Island's local nonprofit landscape, United Way of Long Island has managed to hold steady the grant amounts made to its member agencies over the past two years. United Way works to advance the common good by collaborating with and supporting community-based health and human service agencies that address the critical needs of Long Islanders in the areas of education, income/financial stability and health.
