The Islanders Win.... Thhheeee Islanders Win!! So last night the Isles took on the defending Stanley Cup champions, who just came off a very well played 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. The first period made it appear that this was going to be one of those games which have you have marks all over your face from hold your head all night as the Isles spotted Jersey a 2-0 lead at the end of the period. But then came the second period, the tempo of the game leveled off between the two teams, and the Islanders crawled their way back to tie the game at two with goals 16 seconds apart. Then in the third Brad Isbister scored to give the Islanders the 3-2 lead, which is how, the game would end. Notes: How about that Islander penalty killing? Behind the play of Tim Connolly, Kenny Jonsson, Beezer and the goal post, they were able to hold the Devils 0-6 with the extra man. How about them Refs? It seemed as if there was a bad place for the referees and/or linesmen to be, they were there. If it were possible, they would have been called for obstruction on numerous occasions. How 'bout that? The Isles have won 2 of their last 3 (against the Devils and Rangers). Yeah, it's a small thing, but "baby steps!" Notables: Tim Connolly: 1 goal, 3 shots and a +1 for the night, all this in addition to quality time on the penalty kills. Brad Isbister: 1 goal on 2 shots and was even for the night as his goal was on the powerplay. Once again he came thru and showed his importance to the team. (Note to Charles & Sanjay: Get out your checkbook) John Vanbiesbrouck: 37 saves on 39 shots. Goal Post: It helped make those 37 save mean something to Beezer, as without it, we would be looking at another loss. Honorable Mention: Jason Blake: 0 goals, 0 assists and a +1 overall. So he's not a superstar, but he plays with as much enthusiasm as anyone and is often the cause of mistakes by the opposition in their own end.
