NCPD: Hempstead Elementary School Teacher Accused of Sexual Abuse of Three Children

Hempstead, NY - January 25, 2019 - Special Victims Squad detectives report the arrest of an Island Park man for an incident that occurred on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, information concerning inappropriate behavior and sexual contact, by a teacher, was reported to police regarding an incident that occurred at the Jackson Annex Elementary School, 380 Jackson Street, after school program.
 
An investigation by detectives revealed that John Joseph Finnegan Jr., 51, a teacher at the school, subjected a juvenile female, 10, to inappropriate behavior and sexual contact.
 
A subsequent investigation disclosed that Finnegan, during similar after school programs, subjected two other female juvenile victims to inappropriate behavior that occurred on previous occasions.
 
Finnegan is charged with Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and three (3) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 1/25/2019.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
