Three Men Attempted Robbery in Cedarhurst

Around midnight on Saturday night, a 29-year-old-man was approached by three men while walking near Central Avenue and Cedarhurst Avenue. One suspect demanded cash and when the victim refused to comply the suspect allegedly punched the man in the face. Fortunately the victim was able to get away and phone police. He suffered a laceration and swelling of his right eye but refused medical attention. Mastic Man Charged in Killing Girlfriend

35-year-old Justin Miller is being accused of strangling his girlfriend in front of their child on Sunday. Authorities say he killed girlfriend Teresa Heredia, 29, during an argument in their Mastic home. Miller then called his sister who alerted police. The responding officers found Heredia unconscious and she was later pronounced dead. The couple’s 7-month-old baby is now in Miller’s sister’s custody. Miller is being charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Suffolk County Jail.

Long Island Student Killed in Fire Near Marist College

21-year-old Commack resident Kerry Fitzsimons was among three students who died in a fire at an off-campus house near Marist College in Poughkeepsie. The fire took place early Saturday, just after 1am. Fitzsimons was allegedly trapped inside the burning house she shared with other Marist students, including fashion student Eva Block, 21, of Woodbridge, CT., and aspiring blogger and communications major at Dutchess Community College Kevin Johnson, 21, of New Canaan, CT. Several other students escaped from the blaze and were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation though the fire chief believes it began at the back of the house.

David Laffer’s Doc Under Investigation

A Great Neck doctor who is responsible for supplying thousand of pain pills to David Laffer, the man charged with the murder of four innocent people inside Medford Haven Drugs last summer, is under federal investigation, as is his wife. Dr. Eric Jacobson and his practice are being looked into after the reported overdose of at least two patients. Boxes of patients’ records were seized during a raid of his by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Inter Revenue Service on December 1.
