Thanks to the generous help of Lupus Alliance of America LIQ board member, Frank DeLape of the Long Island based, Red, White and Blues band, Lady Gaga has donated 2 tickets to her upcoming concert at the Nassau Coliseum on April 23rd, 2011, and a private picture taken with herself and the winner to be raffled off by the Lupus Alliance of LIQ. Tickets are on sale now until April 13th, and are $10.00 each or 3 for $25.00. There is no limit to how many tickets can be purchased. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lupusliqueens.org, or you can call 1-800-850-9000 and order them over the phone. All proceeds from this raffle will go towards funding the many programs the Lupus Alliance offers to those living with lupus in the Long Island/Queens area as well as to research into the cause and cure. Over 2 Million Americans have lupus, and that number is growing everyday. Lupus has no known cure, has not had a new medication specifically designed or approved for its treatment in over 50 years, and can cause everything from seizures, memory loss, rashes, crippling fatigue, painful joints, nose and mouth ulcers, fevers, kidney failure, and chest pain. Lupus is most commonly treated with either Prednisone a steroid that causes weight gain, body scarring, delayed puberty, stunted growth, mood swings and more, or off-label drugs like Cellcept, which although helpful, can be expensive and many insurance companies deny coverage since the drug is not made for the treatment of lupus. This raffle will help the Lupus Alliance fund novel research into the cause and cure of lupus, as well as the development of better medications and diagnostic tools, something those living with this devastating disease have fought for and needed for some time. The funds raised will also help fund the Alliance`s program for those living with lupus which include financial assistance, support, counseling, educational seminars and more. The Alliance is very thankful to Lady Gaga for her generosity in not only helping to raise much needed funds for those with lupus, but also by bringing some much needed publicity to the hardships those living with lupus face, and the severity of this all too often misunderstood disease. If you have lupus, or know someone who does, please call the Lupus Alliance of America LIQ at 516-783-3370.
