Barbershop Quartets Ready To Deliver Valentine Messages Times Four

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  29. January 2013

Long Island, NY - Roses are red, we'll present one from you, singing Valentine "love notes," in "barbershop," too.

That, in essence, sums up a program being offered by the Nassau Mid-Island Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society when, on February 12, 13 and Valentine’s Day, Thursday the 14th, talented barbershop quartets from the organization will be personally delivering two love songs (in four-part harmony), silk roses and messages of affection to recipients in Nassau County, and Western Suffolk. The deliveries at workplaces, homes, schools, dining spots, care facilities and other locations arranged in advance through the non-profit Chapter, are priced at $50. The “Singing Valentines” can be scheduled by calling 516-521-8462.

Performed in perfect harmony by the songsters attired in formal tuxedos with bow ties and cummerbunds in bright red, the vocal love notes are offered with the Chapter’s foursomes arriving unannounced to provide an element of surprise. Orders for the "Hear and Now" Valentines -- an annual fund-raiser by the Chapter -- are currently being accepted and scheduled between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm each of the three days.

"Nearly 62% of Americans with sweethearts will celebrate Valentine’s Day by spending more than $13-billion dollars in romantic gifts," observes Joel Fairman, the Long Island Chapter’s “Singing Valentines” program chairman. "This alternative to traditional boxes of candy and cards represents a unique and long-remembered way to express affection."

The local Nassau Mid-Island Chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society is part of a national organization numbering approximately 23,000 members, and is one of over 800 chapters in the US and Canada with affiliated organizations around the globe.

Under the direction of Maurice Debar, its Long Island Harmonizers chorus rehearses Tuesday evenings at Winthrop Hall, Church of the Advent, 555 Advent Street, in Westbury at 8 pm, and welcomes new members throughout the year. The organization's website is at www.longislandharmonizers.org.
