Below is a copy of the letter which was send to the foundation: ------------------------------------------ January 7, 2012 New York City Police Foundation Att Peter Figoski Scholarship Fund 555 5th Avenue 15th Floor NYC NY 10017 Dear Sirs: Enclosed please find 29 individual checks totaling $2075 which are to be applied to the Peter Figoski scholarship fund. This money was raised by members of the internet forum http://www.longislandfirearms.com. The members of this forum are comprised primarily of licensed civilian firearm owners, active and retired law enforcement officers living and working in New York City, Nassau, Suffolk Counties and a small number of members residing in other areas. It is tragic enough when any law enforcement officer loses his or her life in the line of duty, but in the case of Detective Figoski, it is even more tragic as it he never had a chance to draw his weapon or defend himself. His death was nothing less than cold blooded murder. While all of our members share a common interest in firearms for sporting purposes and for personal protection, and strive to educate our members and those interested in firearms in firearms safety and law, we condemn the criminal use of any weapon. Until the courts fully begin to realize that releasing felons early and giving them every benefit of the doubt, as was done in this case, will only result in more deaths and injuries. Predicate criminals such as this deserve one thing an done thing only, and that is long sentences without the benefit of early release or parole.
