The Eastern Suffolk BOCES Cosmetology program held An Afternoon of Beauty, a special salon services fundraiser. More than 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food items and $1,228 was collected and distributed to St. Anne's in Brentwood and the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God in Central Islip. Three ESBOCES Career and Technical Education facilities in Bellport, Oakdale, and Riverhead provided salon services. More than 200 clients signed up to receive haircuts, manicures, and paraffin treatments.

Carolyn McKillop, senior Cosmetology teacher said, "Both St. Anne's and the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God were overwhelmed with the amount of food and monetary donations. They were impressed with our students' willingness to give back to the community."

Chris Birben, a resident of Whispering Pines Condominiums in Yaphank said, "I came last year and was greeted with spirited enthusiasm. I received a wonderful manicure so I just had to come back this year." Chris had a manicure and paraffin treatment by Nicole Aiello from Sachem CSD.

Deirdre Kroupa, ESBOCES Nurse Assisting teacher, brought her two children, Erin and Brendan, to the fundraising event. Brendan, age 4, opted out of the services preferring to sit on mom's lap eating a pop tart, while sister Erin had her hair cut and styled by Leyla Martinez, an Adult Ed Cosmetology student.

Debbie Roulston, an employee with the Westhampton Beach Child Nutrition Program, noticed the posting for the fundraising event at the Westhampton Beach High School. She said, "I'm so delighted I came. This is probably the best haircut I've ever had." Debbie enjoyed both a haircut and paraffin treatment by Guy Yuhas from the Longwood CSD.
