Dear Long Islander,

We've made it halfway through December already - Hannukah draws to a close this Sunday evening, and we're a mere eleven days away from Christmas. You can feel the excitment of the holiday season in the air - whether you're walking down the Main Street of your hometown and finishing up some last minute shopping, or you've attended one of the countless tree & menorah lighting ceremonies that have taken place all over the Island this month. One thing is for sure: Long Island is truly getting into the spirit of the season this year. If you're looking for a way to give back to the community this year, and help out a family in need, be sure to check out our Giving Back for the Holidays Guide, which features all sorts of wonderful ways you can help make someone else's season bright. Many families are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, and need these organizations need more community support than ever before. Whether you're looking to get on Santa's Nice List, or you just want to spread some holiday cheer to your fellow Long Islanders this season, be sure to keep others in mind, as we inch closer to the New Year.

La Tavola Hosts 4th Annual "Adopt-a-Family" Fundraiser
Wednesday, Dec 19th - Help a Local Family in Need this Holiday
Due to the recent effects caused by Hurricane Sandy we have to decided to "adopt" and assist local families in their recovery from the storm.  We are hosting the Fourth Annual fundraiser at la Tavola on Wednesday December 19th from 5-9pm in order to raise money to purchase food, clothing and basic necessitates for the families.  Every dollar goes a long way.  A minimum $5 donation at the door to receive Happy Hour drink specials.  Please come down for dinner or just a holiday drink and help these families rebuild their lives.  There will plenty of raffles, a 50/50 and live music by Dave March of Miles to Dayton!

Fire Safety Tips for Christmas Trees
Here's Some Tips & Tricks for Having a Safe & Happy Christmas!
It’s something we’d prefer not to think about during the holiday season as boxes of ornaments are dusted off and long strings of lights are untangled, but as your family gathers this year it is important to consider the safety of your Christmas tree. Christmas tree fires are not common, but when they occur they tend to be serious. Between 2006 and 2010, fire departments in the United States responded to an average of 230 home fires that started with Christmas trees each year.  An average of four deaths per year, 21 injuries and $17.3 million in property damage resulted from these fires. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has offered a series of fire and safety tips for Christmas trees on behalf of the Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services to help keep Long Islanders safe & secure this holiday season.
